Artificial Muscles to Propel Nanobots Through the Body

Nanotechnology has already had a significant impact on the world of medical science - however the next generation of nano-scale medical technology will blow your mind. For example, researchers from the University of British Columbia are currently working on a line of nanobots that will aim to diagnose and heal the body from the inside. In order to accomplish this amazing feat they have developed artificial muscles that are extremely flexible and strong enough to rotate objects a thousand times their own weight. By spinning carbon nanotubes into helical yarns, researchers were able to control the yarn with an electrochemical charge that causes them to twist and untwist. The muscle can be incorporated into bots with artificial flagella, or tiny tails that would rotate to propel them.

Zero-gravity roller coaster proposed.

BRC Imagination Arts has designed a roller coaster which it says would allow passengers to experience eight seconds of microgravity (which is just a fancy word for zero gravity). The “Vomit Comet” ride is named after a NASA aircraft which was flown in parabolic curves to simulate microgravity and train astronauts for spaceflight.

The proposed roller coaster would accelerate parallel to the ground to over 100 mph before shooting straight upward, decelerating at the top of a large tower before plummeting back down at the precise speed needed to simulate weightlessness. The ride capsule would be fully enclosed, meaning riders wouldn’t be able to judge their position and speed from the horizon, adding to the weightless effect.

Because the weight of each rider would be different, the ride would be calculated and adjusted before every “flight”, meaning a very expensive roller coaster - it’s estimated to cost $40 to $60 million to design and build. BRC has proposed that some of that cost could be recouped in the evenings once the theme park closes, by leasing the ride to space agencies for microgravity research.

 Forest Blending Acrylic Glass Statues

Imagine walking through a forest and seeing just a glimpse of these invisible figures! They’re the creative work of artist Rob Mulholland. It has been called the Predator effect after the 1987 film where an alien life form seamlessly blends into its background.

Mulholland told BBC Scotland that the key to the effect was creating a distorted reflection. “It alters reality, one moment you see them and the next moment they blend in. There’s an ambiguity to it - it doesn’t answer all the questions.

it’s beautiful, i’m fucking crying…

Oh. Oh guys you NEED TO WATCH THIS. but, um, don’t do it if you don’t want a punch in the gut. It’s beautiful, and thought provoking, and sad.

Wow, fuck.

oh god

oh my god

Ok, can we talk about this for a minute? I know my english sucks but anyway.

You can’t imagine how much this breaks me. I’ve always had a soft spot when it came to robots and this is just unbelievably pretty and perfect and so, so, heartbreaking that I don’t even know what to say. It just really breakes me when she screams “I’m scared” because that, that, is the exact point when you can see how really alive she is. I don’t care if there’s nothing but wires and circuits in her, she’s alive and that’s everything that matters, you know?

Just… jesus, I have so many feelings about this.

(Also, I found a download link if someone, like me, wants to have it)

Okay this looks really good and everything as animation.

But  on the story side, if you just made the first robot that is artificially sentient and it has emotions and completely human responses, your reaction should NOT be to disassemble it OR to ship it off as if nothing happened.

I feel like that guy should be a little bit more excited about heralding in a new era of awesome for the world.
